Suspect in Police Shooting Identified
(Cocoa, FL)—The suspect in a police shooting is identified as Dexter Bray, (DOB 10/30/1970). He is currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Bray has an active felony warrant for an unrelated assault. He will face additional charges relating to Thursday’s incident.
Just after 3 PM Thursday, patrol officers responded to 1717 Dixon Blvd., Village Green Apartments, after the security officer requested assistance while a tow truck operator removed a vehicle from the property. Shortly after officers arrived, the occupant of apartment 83, later identified as Bray, exited his apartment armed with a handgun. Bray raised his weapon towards the tow truck operator and the security officer. The security officer and CPD officer responded with shots fired. The suspect was wounded. There were no other injuries. The suspect’s firearm has been recovered and secured. Bray is facing multiple charges involving aggravated assault with a firearm against a police officer and a security officer. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the police involved shooting which is active and ongoing.
