Chief Swears In New Police OfficerPHOTOS AND VIDEO FOR DOWNLOAD(Cocoa, FL)—Chief Evander Collier IV administered the Oath of Office to a new police officer Friday morning. Adan Aviles, 34, was sworn in during a special ceremony in the presence of family, friends and police department personnel.
Aviles was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, but grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. He moved to Florida in 2004. He is the second-oldest of 8 siblings and half siblings. After working in private security, Aviles decided to become a law enforcement officer where he believes he can make a positive difference in people’s lives. In September of 2021, Aviles graduated from the Criminal Justice Academy at Valencia College. He is the only member of his family to pursue a law enforcement career. Aviles is married and has a son. He enjoys playing basketball, cooking, weightlifting, and spending time with his wife, family and friends.
Aviles will spend the next several months in training learning the departments policies and procedures. He will be assigned to a field training officer to learn all the operational procedures of the job. Upon successful completion of the training, he will be assigned to a squad and deployed for solo patrol duties.
