TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR THEFT AT LOCAL JEWELRY STORE
(Cocoa, FL)-Detectives are pursuing grand theft and burglary charges for a male and female suspect believed to have stolen a $29,000 diamond ring from a local jewelry store Tuesday. The same suspects were arrested in Volusia County approximately two hours after the Cocoa incident, as they attempted to steal from another jewelry store in that jurisdiction.
On Tuesday morning just after 11 AM the male and female entered the jewelry store on Brevard Avenue. The male distracted one of the employees and the female reached over the counter and stole the ring. The two then left the store. Employees reported the theft a short time after the couple left. The employees provided officers with descriptions of the suspects along with surveillance video showing the couple in the store. Detectives immediately issued statewide bulletins with the information, and were later contacted by detectives in Daytona who reported the same suspects were arrested for a similar crime in their jurisdiction. The couple was found to be in possession of multiple fraudulent passports and identifications along with large amounts of cash. The stolen ring was not located. The suspects are identified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as Orlando Sanchez, (DOB 04/03/1981) and Fatima Reyes-Gomez, (01/12/1984). They are currently being held in the Volusia County Detention Center without bail and have an immigration hold on any potential release. The investigation remains active.
