(Cocoa, FL)—Chief Evander Collier IV swore in a new police officer Monday morning, the second new officer in a week to join the ranks of the Cocoa Police Department. Raven Bell, 29, accepted the oath of office during a mid-morning ceremony attended by members of Cocoa City Council, city manager, police department leadership and staff, and family members.
Bell is originally from New Jersey but was raised in Miami since the age of 2. She has 3 siblings and 3 children of her own. She recently graduated from the Criminal Justice Academy at Eastern Florida State College, and is continuing to pursue her associate degree. Bell has prior experience as a corrections officer in the State of Texas where she also served as a member of the emergency response team. She says her ultimate goal was to join a small police department where she could have a bigger impact and be part of a police family.
Bell will spend the first few weeks learning the department’s policies and procedures. She will then be paired with a field training officer where she will begin operational training for several months before being deployed to solo patrol duties as a member of a patrol squad.
