New Police Chief Officially Sworn In
(Cocoa, FL)—Mayor Michael C. Blake administered the Police Officer’s Oath to the city’s new chief of Police.  Evander Collier IV, accepted the oath of office in a private ceremony last Thursday in order to assume his official duties.  A public swearing in ceremony will be held on May 12^th at Cocoa City Hall in Council Chambers, 65 Stone St., beginning at 6 p.m. It will be the first opportunity for the public to meet Chief Collier and witness a ceremonial swearing in. The swearing-in and public meet and greet event will include a welcome from Mayor Michael C. Blake, introductions and recruitment process overview from Cocoa City Manager, Stockton Whitten and public comments from Chief Collier.

Chief Collier is originally from Jacksonville, the largest city in the State of Florida.  He spent more than 30-years serving with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office where he worked his way through the ranks to become one of the agency’s top leaders.  Throughout his law enforcement career, he has demonstrated success building and sustaining strong community, strategic partnerships, and stakeholder relationships and is known for his collaborative “lead from the front” approach in driving reductions in crime and improving productivity of all areas under his leadership. Chief Collier is recognized for his comprehensive and strategic crime fighting approach that delivered notable results, such as a 50% reduction in the city of Jacksonville’s homicides and a 30-40% reduction in violent crime for 4 consecutive years.   

Chief Collier holds a Master of Arts in public administration from the University of  Central Michigan and successfully completed the Administrative Officer Commander master level program at the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute. He is a recognized subject matter expert in multiple areas of the law enforcement profession including community policing, crime prevention, and problem-solving initiatives.
