[ARCHIVED] Anthony A. Garganese Named 2007 Florida City Attorney of the Year

ORLANDO - The Florida League of Cities announced Anthony A. Garganese as the City Attorney of the
Year in its Florida Cities of Excellence Awards Program. The presentation was held November 9, 2007,
during a luncheon ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport Hotel. The award
recognizes a city attorney who provides unparalleled service to his or her city. Mr. Garganese currently
serves as the City Attorney for the cities of Cocoa, Winter Springs, Cape Canaveral, and Orchid, and special
counsel to other cities.
“I am honored by the award especially given my tremendous respect for the Florida League of Cities,” said
Garganese. “I am very happy to bring this recognition to the cities that I am so fortunate to represent.”
The Florida Cities of Excellence Awards Program honors municipal leaders and municipalities throughout
the state for devoted commitment to public service and their ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life
in their cities.
“Florida’s cities are a wonderful place to live,” said Frank C. Ortis, Florida League of Cities president and
mayor of Pembroke Pines. “The finalists in this category provide an enhanced quality of life for every citizen
because of their hard work and commitment to their communities.”
Winners were selected by the League’s executive committee and chosen for their initiative in developing
innovative programs and exemplary leadership.
Other award categories included: Florida City of Excellence, City Spirit Award, Council Member of the
Year, City Citizen of the Year, City Clerk of the Year, City Finance Official of the Year, Mayor of the Year,
City Employee of the Year and City Manager of the Year.
All winners received a “MUNI” award and will be featured in the League’s magazine, Quality Cities.
At a recent City Council meeting, Cocoa Mayor Michael C. Blake said, “This recognition is great for the City
of Cocoa and we are proud to have Anthony as part of Team Cocoa.” “We appreciate all the hard work and
dedication that Anthony has given to our City over the years.” Mayor John F. Bush of Winter Springs said,
“We love having Anthony represent our City. We have great confidence in his judgment on all the complex
issues that we face as elected officials.”
