[ARCHIVED] City Council Accepting Applications of Qualified Residents for the Vacant District 3 Council Seat

The District 3 Council seat is currently vacant. The Cocoa City Council is accepting applications from interested and qualified residents of District 3 interested in serving in that seat. The appointment will be for the remainder of the unexpired term which expires in November 2024. The appointment shall be at the sole and absolute discretion of the City Council pursuant to the powers vested in the City Council by the City Charter and applicable law.

Qualifications:

  • The City Charter requires that any person serving on the City Council for Seat/District 3 must be domiciled in District 3 for at least one year prior to the date of qualification for office and shall have the qualifications of a city elector and shall be domiciled within the district during their term as councilmember. 
  • Further, the City Code requires prospective and existing board members to fill out an application. 
  • Consent to a standard criminal background check is required. 
  • City Code also prohibits a person from serving on a City Board or Committee if that person has been convicted of a felony unless their civil rights have been restored.

Applications can be found online or picked up from the City Clerk's office at City Hall (65 Stone St.) Monday through Friday, 8a-5p. All applications and applicable qualifying documents must be complete and submitted to the City Clerk's office no later than 12:00pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Late filings will not be accepted.
