[ARCHIVED] Council permits expanded outdoor dining options due to COVID-19

Outdoor dining area in front of Village Idiot Pub in Cocoa Village

On Wednesday, May 6, 2020, Cocoa City Council approved a resolution establishing a limited permit-outdoor seating area for local restaurants to be able to expand dining options for patrons while under the seating capacity limitations ordered by the State during the COVID-19 pandemic. This resolution allowed restaurants to obtain a limited permit authorizing new, temporary outdoor seating areas that did not exist previously. In October 2020, Council approved to extend the temporary permits through February 28, 2021. Council then extended once again to allow for outdoor dining through June 30, 2021 allowing establishments the opportunity to continue to recover after shutdowns, capacity restrictions and limited patrons due to the pandemic. In addition, it will also allow those patrons that are still concerned with social distancing the opportunity to patronize these establishments and practice social distancing guidelines.

Currently, the following establishments have applied for and were approved for the temporary expanded outdoor seating areas:

  • Beef O’ Brady’s, Cocoa
  • Ossorio Bakery & Café
  • Jerk Flavas Jamaican Restaurant
  • Village Idiot Pub
  • Pub Americana
  • Dog and Bone
