Cocoa is Maintaining Safe and Reliable Water Service During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies. Based on current evidence, the risk to water supplies is low. Americans can continue to use and drink water from their tap as usual.

EPA has established regulations with treatment requirements for public water systems that prevent waterborne pathogens such as viruses from contaminating drinking water and wastewater. Coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, is a type of virus that is particularly susceptible to disinfection and standard treatment and disinfectant processes are expected to be effective.

We are carefully monitoring the state and national advisories regarding COVID-19. While we work to ensure our customers maintain access to a reliable and safe water supply, we are also taking precautionary steps to protect the health of our employees and customers.

The Cocoa Utilities Department encourages the public to help keep household plumbing and our nation’s water infrastructure operating properly by only flushing toilet paper. Disinfecting wipes and other items should be disposed of in the trash, not the toilet.
