If you’ve lived in Brevard County for any length of time, chances are, you’ve taken notice of Past Gas Co. located on 520 in Cocoa Village. If you’re like me, you might have assumed the typical clients range from the avid gas station memorabilia collector to the occasional interior decorator, with few others in between. However, while this description may fit a portion of the client base, it certainly is not the majority. This small business has more to offer than you would expect.
Walt and Terry Kostrzewa decided to transform their van conversion business into a restoration facility for antique gas pumps when Walt started seeing doubles in his very own collection. Since the shop’s opening in 1986, the Kostrzewa’s showroom pieces and restoration projects have grown to include all things nostalgic and unusual, from Coca-Cola memorabilia and antique arcade games to an old, irreplaceable household blender and a treasured restaurant pizza oven. With a formal education in mechanical engineering, each new challenge has proven Walt’s unconventional use of his degree to be one of the most fulfilling parts of small business ownership.
Over the years, Walt and Terry have acquired clients large and small, clients throughout Brevard County and across Europe, but some of their most famous work has probably been right in front of you on numerous of occasions. Past Gas memorabilia and custom projects have been featured in commercials, television shows, at Disney and Universal theme parks, and in the 1990 film “Coupe de Ville.” Yes, this small business has much more to offer than you would expect, as Past Gas aims to serve every client and their unique project with the same level of detail and care.
