Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides annual grants to the City of Cocoa to develop a viable City by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low and moderate-income persons. The program is authorized under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, Public Law 93-383, as amended; 42 U.S.C.-5301 et seq.
The City must develop and follow a detailed plan which provides for and encourages citizen participation and that emphasizes participation by persons of low or moderate-income, particularly residents of predominantly low and moderate-income neighborhoods, slum or blighted areas, and areas in which the City proposes to use CDBG funds.
HOME Investment Partnership Program
The City of Cocoa also receives HOME funds.HOME is authorized under Title II of the Cranston-Gonzalez National Affordable Housing Act, as amended and is used to fund a wide range of activities that build, buy, and / or rehabilitate affordable housing for rent or homeownership or provide direct rental assistance to low-income people.
