Suspect Faces Murder Charge for Death of Homeless Man

(Cocoa, FL)—A 40-year-old male with a lengthy criminal history is now facing a charge of second degree murder after a body was found at a homeless camp just north of the Cocoa Walmart, 2700 Clearlake Road. Terrance Skinner, (DOB 12/10/1978), was arrested late Friday afternoon at the scene of the crime. He was being held at gunpoint by witnesses, one of which ran to the nearby Walmart to flag down a pair of Brevard County Sheriff’s deputies who were in the area.

The investigation revealed the victim, a white male identified as Wayne Severance, 67, was in the tent with permission from the owner who let him stay to prevent people from entering and stealing personal property. At some point after noon on Friday the suspect is believed to have committed the murder. At approximately 3:30 Friday afternoon the owner of the tent returned with another person. The two witnesses saw Skinner at the entrance of the tent. As they attempted to find out why Skinner, who was not known to them, was inside the tent, they saw the victim lying on the floor covered in blood. The witnesses described Skinner as attempting to block them from coming into the tent. This is when one witness advised the other to draw his weapon and hold him while he went for help. Further investigation revealed the victim suffered from multiple, deep lacerations and there appeared to have been a struggle inside the tent.

The investigation is ongoing.
