Cocoa Police Volunteer Unit


The Volunteer Citizens Observer Program (VCOPs) began in 1999 to enhance the police department's delivery of services by allowing enthusiastic, dependable, committed people to work alongside CPD officers. The VCOPs are trained in many areas including:
  • Traffic Control
  • Issuing Parking Citations
  • Police Radio Procedures
  • Vehicle Operation
  • Secure Crime Scenes
  • Patrol
  • Other Duties
The unit handles over fifty special details per year.

Qualifications for the program are:
  • Have no felony convictions
  • Posses a valid Florida Drivers License
  • Be in good health
  • Be of good moral character
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Willing to volunteer at least 8 hours per month
  • Other Duties
